For Children and Youth

 

The mission of the Sunday School is to partner with the parents of our church in fulfilling the responsibility to plant and nurture the seeds of faith in their children for the glory of God.  Our goal is that these children will grow to become mighty oaks of righteousness, with roots sunk down deep into

  • the truths of the Word of God
  • a love for God
  • a trust in our sovereign God-- ultimately experiencing the joy of God being supreme in their lives.

 

We believe that nurturing maturity in faith involves three key areas.

 

  • Content.  What we believe is as important as the fact that we believe.  We want to make worshippers of our children-- not nominal Christians.  We want them to grow to worship in spirit and in truth-- not just in knowledge.  We want them to grow to worship and love God with all their heart.  BUT, they can't love what they do not know.  The Bible gives us truth about God and this truth is the fuel for worship.  Therefore, we are concerned about teaching the content of faith accurately.
  • Relationship with God.  Nurturing faith also involves helping the students make a "heart" commitment to God-- to have a "relationship" with God-- to turn their hearts towards God-- to not only understand the truth, but to be captured by it.
  • Behavior.  Finally, we want our students to make the connection between belief and behavior-- that a part of loving God is a desire to please him by obedience.   We want them to come to the point of understanding that to receive Christ means more than receiving the benefits of forgiveness.  It means believing that he died for our sins, loving him, and determining to strive to obey his commands.

For Adults

 

We believe that learning the Bible is just as important for adult Christians as it is for younger ones.  The same values we have in teaching our children are the ones we seek to live and model as we teach and learn together as adults.  That's why we also have several classes that are designed to teach God's Word and train his people for ministry.  Our elders give oversight to this part of the Sunday School ministry.  They do much of the instruction, along with other skilled teachers from our congregation.  See the Faith & Practice page for a description of our four-year course of study for adults.  The following are just a sample of some recent adult class electives:
